The Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk is inviting applications for participation in an international project to be carried out in early 2011. The project bearing the title "Remembering and Commemorating in the Age of Web 2.0" aims to bring together young people from Central and Eastern Europe with survivors of Nazi concentration camps and ghettos. They will closely get to know each other and reflect together about possible ways of preserving the memory of Nazi terror. This issue is becoming more and more virulent, as the number of eye witnesses who are able to tell their stories is rapidly decreasing. Different media techniques (video, audio, photo etc.) will be applied by the participants in order to record and document the accounts of the former camp inmates, and to make them publicly available via the internet afterwards.
The project is divided in two parts: part one will take place from 23 to 28 January 2011 in Oswiecim (Auschwitz) in Poland, and part two from 23 to 27 March 2011 in Weimar-Buchenwald (Germany). Participants are expected to attend both parts. Working languages will be German, Polish, Russian and English, so proficiency in at least one of these is a prerequisite. The costs for participation (incl. travel cost) will be covered by the Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk, and no tuition fee will be charged.
Further information can be obtained from the project website. Potential participants are requested to apply through the online registration forms provided (German, Polish, Russian). Deadline for submitting registrations is 10 December 2010 and applicants will be informed of the results not later than mid-December.
